Arrival to School:
• Instruction begins at
7:45 am.
• Students will wait
outside the door until
the 1st bell rings, by 7:45
we are in the room and
working.
• If your child is absent for any
reason, he or she is responsible for
getting the work and making it up.
• “We Missed You” file has been
created in the front of the room
• Your child will be given the same
number of days as their absence to
complete the work
• Your child is considered tardy if
they are not in the room at the
7:45 bell.
Dress Code
• No spaghetti straps
• Tennis shoes on PE days
(Tuesday and Thursday)
• No tummies showing
• Shorts, skirts and dresses at
least midthigh or longer
Specials
• Computer Lab Time- Mondays from 12:30-1:00
• P.E.: Physical Education with Mr. Barney
Tuesday 10:30-11:00 and Thursday 12:0012:30
• Music: Band, Orchestra, and General Music
from 10:00-10:30
• Library: Thursday at 12:30 to 1:00
• GEM: Tuesday’s with Mrs. Thelen (only for
students in the G.E.M. program)
Writing/ Reading (ELA):
Reading/English: Daily Five; Houghton Mifflin
Series
Writing: 4-square writing using the 6 Traits+1
method
Spelling : Follows along with the
Houghton Mifflin Reading Series,
words will be assigned on Monday
with a test on Friday
Throughout the year we also complete many different Social Studies Projects,
including:
If you are interested in the history of the United States, think about attending our
5th Grade California trip in May where we will be participating in a live Civil War
Re-enactment at Riley's Farm!
This year in 5th Grade, we will be
covering many different topics in math.
Unit 1: Place Value
Unit 2: Operations
Unit 3: Geometry
Unit 4: Fractions- Addition and
Subtraction
Unit 5: FractionsUnit 6: Measurement and Volume
Multiplication and Division
Unit 7:Algebra and Coordinate Planes
Timed Tests
In 5th grade, it is our goal to master the Multiplication and Division
Timed Tests. Each of these Timed Tests last 5 minutes and have 100
problems. They cover all math facts from 0-12. As students enter the
100% Club, they will begin taking Simplifying Fractions, Fraction to
Decimal to Percent, and Mixed Numbers to Improper Fractions
Timed Tests, too.

and the laws of motion
Agenda Books:
• Filled out Daily by Student and checked daily by teacher.
• Please initial/Sign nightly.
• Homework will be sent home Monday’s and is expected
to be returned completed on Friday.

State Nutrition Policy:
• We have four class parties a year for which
we have the opportunity to have food in the
classroom and you are welcome to celebrate
your child’s birthday by sending in treats.
• Due to state guidelines, all items sent to the
school must be packaged - no homemade
treats can be brought in.

• Trip Cost is $350 (can receive
tax credit for this expenditure)
