The Musical Alphabet
• The musical alphabet is the foundation of
music
• Just like the regular alphabet, the musical
alphabet puts the letters ( or notes) into a
specific pattern to form music
• The musical alphabet is:

scale
• A scale is a series of 8 notes ( or an
octave) that is the foundation of music
• All music is based on scales
• Scales are the building blocks of music.
• Without scales there would be no music

• The musical alphabet is how musicians
read music
• Just like the regular alphabet helps
students read books
• The musical alphabet helps musicians read
music. Instead of books musicians use
Clefs
• There is the Treble Clef and the Bass Clef
The Treble Clef
• All instruments that are high voiced like
the trumpet, clarinet, flute, oboe, and
saxophones play in the treble Clef
• The Treble Clef is also called the G Clef
Bass Clef
• The Low voiced instruments like the Tuba,
Trombone, baritone, Cello, Double bass
play in the Bass Clef
• The bass Clef is also called the F Clef
