role for Local

• From 1 April, local authorities have a new
responsibility to improve the health and
well- being of their local population
New PH responsibilities
• Appoint a Director of Public Health
• Oversee a local PH ring fenced grant
• Work with partners to improve health –
Health and Wellbeing Boards
• Produce Joint Strategic Needs
Assessment (monitor health needs of the
local population)
• Commission services to promote health
and wellbeing

• Comprehensive sexual health services
(sexually transmitted infections, contraception,
sexual health promotion and disease prevention)
