Born in 1914 to
Russian immigrant parents, Jonas was the
first in his family to graduate from college.
After college
•he became an assistant professor of
epidemiology
•a lead researcher at a viral research lab,
•worked as a professor of bacteriology
•worked as a doctor of preventive and
experimental medicine
•studied infectious diseases
•where he discovered the cure for……

the vaccine in 1952 millions
of people around the world
had been affected by this
disease.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt
(FDR), 32nd President of the
United States, contracted polio at
age 39. His illness had a major
impact on public perceptions of
individuals with disabilities.
FDR was open about having
polio.
There are only four
countries infected with
polio. Thanks to Rotary
International we are
reducing the number of
people infected with it.
This would not have
happened if Jonas Salk had
not made the vaccine.









