• FoodNet reported important declines in
the major foodborne diseases in 2004
compared to 1996
– E. coli O157:H7, Campylobacter, Salmonella
have declined from 8-42%

Washington Conclusions
• Given openness on both “sides” - public
health and industry, a collaborative
approach can be an effective method for
addressing antibiotic use in agriculture
• There is willingness in the DAIRY industry
to examine antibiotic use and take steps
to use antibiotics more judiciously
