He is the protector of the Universe, the

Supreme Light.

Lord Narayana is the Supreme Reality.
He exists even beyond the Supreme

He pervades whatever is seen or heard
in this Universe. He pervades the entire
Universe within and without all forms.

One should meditate on the Supreme
who is limitless, imperishable, wise; who
dwells in the sea of one’s heart and is
the cause of the happiness in the
Universe.

chaapya-dho-mukham adho

The place for meditation is the space of
the heart which is symbolised by an
inverted lotus-bud. The heart is located
at the distance of a finger span below
the Adam’s apple and above the navel.

jvaala-maalaa-kulaM bhaatii
vishvasyaa-yatanaM mahat
santata(gm) shilaa-bhistu
lambatyaa-kosha-sannibham
This heart space shines brilliantly like
lightning and is the lofty abode of the
Universe.
Surrounded on all sides by nerve
currents, the lotus-bud of the heart is
suspended in an inverted position.

suukshmaM tasmin sarvaM

tasya madhye
mahaan-agnir-vishvaarchirvishva-to-mukaH
Deep within this heart is a subtle space,
which is the basis for everything. In that
space within the heart, resides the great
flame of fire which is aflame on all sides
and has faces turned everywhere.

This fire is ageless and all-knowing
and consumes all the food presented to
it and distributes it to the body.

rashmayas-tasya santataa
santaa-payati svaM
deha-maa-paada-talamastakaH
The rays of this fire spread all around,
sideways as well as above and below.
The rays of this fire warm up the whole
body from head to feet.

tasya madhye vahni-shikhaa
aNiiyordhvaa vyava-sthitaH
niilato-yada-madhyasthaadvidyul-lekheva bhaasvara
In the center of that flame resides a
tongue of Fire, which is most subtle.
This tongue of Fire is brilliant and
dazzles like a streak of lightning in the
midst of blue rain-bearing clouds.

niivaara-shuuka-vat-tanvii
piitaa bhaa-svatyaN-uupamaa
tasyaaH shikhaayaa madhye
paramaatmaa vyava-sthitaH
The flame is slender like the tip of a
paddy grain and is golden in colour.
Its subtlety is comparable to that of the
minute atom.
The Supreme Self dwells in the middle
of that flame.

The Supreme Self is the Creator, the
Destroyer, the Protector and the Ruler of
all beings.
He is imperishable and the Supreme selfluminous, pure consciousness.

May we know the Supreme Lord
