Energy Interactions
Force
• What is Force. - Force is the weight given off on an object.
• What happens when you give off force to an object. – It will move!
1. Push + Ball = Rolling ball
2. Throwing + Football = Gliding football
• Define GRAVITY and give an example. Gravity is Earth’s magnetic field
•
pulling things down to the surface. Ex: If you trip, the Earth’s gravity will pull
you down till you hit the ground! ”Ouch” Gravity is not always your friend.
Define magnetism & show what 2 forces it can make. Magnetism is the force
coming from a magnetic source. Ex: Push, Pull.
• Define friction. A force that acts against other objects.
• Give an example of friction using 2 different sports {Soccer,Hockey} what
surfaces would be good and bad? Soccer: The ball is getting pulled by gravity
in soccer. A good field for a soccer ball would be a grass field and a bad one
would be a dirt and rocks field. Hockey: The skates stop on top of the ice. A
good field for a hockey puck would be an ice rink and a bad field would be a
grass field!
Energy Misc.
• What is ENERGY? Energy is the ability to move or to cause change in
•
•
•
•
•
matter.
What types of energy can solar energy make? Thermal energy. {Heat}
List the conductors and insulators of thermal/heat energy
CONDUCTORS: Copper, silver, gold, and, metal.
INSULATORS: Aluminum, cloth, and plastic.
What are ways we use sound energy in the real world?
1.Recordings
2.Hologram recordings
How is an ECHO produced? The bouncing of sound waves hitting “walls”.
Describe Mechanical Energy and how it we use it. Mechanical energy is
used or stored energy in gears, axels, and other mechanical parts. We use a
lot of mechanical energy in vacuums, speakers, lights, and irons as well.
Light Energy
• Describe how light travels and what happens when light strikes another object. Light
•
•
•
•
travels in straight lines. Light can be bright, straight, or curvy! When light hits an
object with a curvy surface it will bounce off in a different direction, if light hit a
smooth surface then it would reflect back, if light hit a shiny surface it would reflect
out, if light hit a bumpy surface it would reflect in a different direction than it came
in.
Describe how light is reflected and examples. Lights of all different colors hit a
surface of ”green” then it only reflects green. {Ex. In bold, italic, and
underlined}
How is light refracted and give examples. When light passes through to 1 substance
to another changing direction. Ex. Sunlight hitting water.
Describe how light is absorbed and give examples. Light energy is absorbed when
light is converted into something else. 1.light is absorbed through your body.
What happens to light when it goes through a hand lens?
• Light travels through hand lens by reflections.
• When light goes through lens, it makes objects look bigger.
Electricity
• What materials conduct and insulate electricity?
• Conductors of electricity – Copper, brass, iron, tin
• Insulators of electricity – Stainless steel, glass, paper, plastic
• Draw examples of a complete and incomplete circuit using 2 wires, 1 light bulb, and a
battery.
Incomplete {When plugged out}
Complete
Renewable NON-Renewable
Resources 
• What Fossil Fuels are burned to produce electricity & why should we
•
•
•
•
•
•
conserve them?
1.Oil
2.Coal
3.Natural gases
We should conserve oil because once you use it you can’t turn it to the way
it was before.
We should conserve coal because that also you can only use once.
We need to conserve Natural gases because they help make electricity.
• Where does geothermal energy come from, how do we use it , and why we
•
•
•
•
•
use it.
It comes from: underground
We drill it, produce it, and use it.
We use it to heat things and more!!!
How is wind energy produced and how do we use it? It’s produced by big
turbines.
We use it to create energy!
