Warm up
Benito is a waiter. He earns a base salary of $1,500
a month, plus 20% of the price of the meals he
serves.
1. Write an equation to predict the amount of
money Benito will earn if he serves $350 in meals.
2. Benito earned $1,650 in one month. What was
the total price of the meals that Benito served?
3. Create a graph to show the possible amount
of money Benito could earn each month.
Warm up - debrief
Benito is a waiter. He earns a base salary of $1,500 a month, plus 20% of the
price of the meals he serves.
1. Write an equation to predict the amount of money Benito will earn if he
serves $350 in meals.
y=1500+0.20x
2.
Benito earned $1,650 in one month. What was the total price of the
meals that Benito served?
Substitute $1,650 for y, the total amount of money Benito earned.
1650 = 1500 + 0.20x Solve for x.
1650 = 1500 + 0.20x 150 = 0.20x
750 = x
Original equation
Subtract 1,500 from both sides. Divide both sides by 0.20.
Benito served $750 worth of meals.
3.
Create a graph to show the possible amount of money Benito could
earn each month.

Standard
A–REI.6 Solve systems of linear
equations exactly and
approximately (e.g., with
graphs), focusing on pairs of
linear equations in two
variables.
Learning Target
There are various methods for
solving a system of equations.
One is the graphing method.
I can use a TI-84 to graph system
of equations.
Graphing Equations
Using a TI-84
1.
2.
3.
4.
Enter the first equation into Y1.
Enter the second equation into Y2.
Hit GRAPH.
Use the INTERSECT option to find where the
two graphs intersect (the answer).
2nd TRACE (CALC) #5 intersect
Move spider close to the intersection.
Hit ENTER 3 times.
