SOLVING LINEAR
INEQUALITIES IN TWO
VARIABLES
Coordinate Plane
Warm-Up
1.)Sabina and Lou are reading the same book. Sabina reads 12 pages a day. She had
read 36 pages when Lou started the book, and Lou reads at a pace of 15 pages per
day. If their reading rates continue, will Sabina and Lou ever be reading the same
page on the same day? Explain.
2.) The drama club is having a car wash as a fundraiser. They wash x cars at $5 each
and y trucks at $8 each. They will wash at least 26 cars and 15 trucks. They need to
make at least $250. Write 3 inequalities to represent this situation. [One for the
number of trucks, one for the number of cars, and one for the amount they need to
make. DON’T forget to define your variables.
3.) Solve: 7b + 3 – 4b = 3 – 3(b +4)
4.) 6(x – 1) = 6x – 1
Steps for Graphing Inequalities
1) Write equation in slope-intercept form
2) Identify the slope (m) and y-intercept (b)
3) Graph the line - solid if  or 
dashed if < or >
4) Determine whether to shade above or
below the line & shade.
5) Check your answer with a test point that
falls in the shaded region.
