Steve and his two brothers wanted to buy a plastic
backyard pool and a sandbox for their sister’s fourth
birthday. The pool cost $24, including tax. The sandbox
was half of the pool’s cost, including tax. Each boy
contributed all of the money he had. Steve had $7.23 left
from his last month’s allowance, Edward had $4.95, and
Matthew had $5.75. To earn the rest of the money, Steve
worked for his neighbor doing yard work for 3 hours.
Steve earned a total of $19 working for his neighbor.
Steve and his brothers drove 3.5 miles to the toy store to
buy the pool and the sandbox.
