Thad sees 7 beetles when he weeds his garden.
Each beetle has 6 legs. How many legs are there on
all 7 beetles?
On your personal white board, draw and label a tape
diagram to model this problem. Use the letter b for
the beetles’ legs to represent the unknown.
7 x 6 = b, b = 42.
