The scorecard
The scorecard for our match looks like this:
Ice
Cream
Each scorer needs to
supply a scorecard
The remaining card is
divided into quarters
which represent the
quarters of the match
Tip:
A scorecard doesn’t
have to be pre-printed,
it can be a piece of
paper with lines drawn
on it
There is a place at the
top of the scorecard to
add the name of each
team
copyright 2016 Franc Concepts Ltd
The scorecard
Ice
Cream
The teams take
alternate centre passes
Either an “E” (Evens) or
an “O” (Odds) is added
to each box
At the top of each
quarter is a space to
show who takes the
centre pass during the
quarter.

Odds and Evens
So, who gets the “E”
and who gets the “O”?
Ice
Cream
Before the start of any
match, the score is 0 : 0.
When added together
0+0=0
This is shown on our
scorecard as an Even
number
It depends on the score
at any point in the
match

Odds and Evens

E
O
Team Ice have won the
toss and will take the
first centre pass so an
“E’ is added under their
name and an “O” is
added under Team

Throughout the match

Both teams have a
scorer. The scorers
should stand together
benchside out of the
umpires way
Cream
E
O
The scorers should
check with each other
when each goal is
scored to ensure they
have recorded the same
score
(Benchside is at the side
of the court)

Recording the score
The umpire will signal a
goal has been scored by
raising their arm in the
air

Tip:
Write the score as
numbers , not five bar
gates
(numbers are easier to
read)
When a goal is scored,
add a goal to the
scoring team side of the
scorecard, in the
quarter in which it was
scored
AND
cross out the previous
score for the team who
scored a goal

Odds and Evens
During the match:
Tip:
Ice
Cream
E
O
At any point in the
match the scores on
each side of the
scorecard are added
together to decide if
the next centre pass is
an Even or Odd number
In high scoring games
just add the last digits,
for example:
28 + 37
Add together
8+7
To give you an odd (15).
(it’s easier than adding
the whole number
together to get the odd
number 65)

Odds and Evens
During the match:
Ice
Cream
E
O
If they disagree, they
will ask you to confirm
who should take the
centre pass. You will be
able to do this by
adding the scores
together and comparing
it to which team is
Evens and which team
is Odds
Both umpires will signal
who is taking the next
centre pass

Odds and Evens
During the match:
Ice
Cream
E
O
Both umpires will signal
who is taking the next
centre pass
If both umpires agree
but their decision
doesn’t match your
card, you need to call to
them to stop time so
the scorecard can be
checked
You need to do this
quickly so it’s really
important that you
watch the game
carefully

Usually,
the team who started as
Even in the previous
quarter starts the next
quarter as Odd
and
the team who started
as Odd in the previous
quarter starts as Even
This is to ensure the
centre continues to be
taken alternately

The Evens / Odds exception
Ice
If a goal has been scored
just before the whistle is
blown for the end of the
quarter AND before the
next centre pass is taken,
the Odd and Even
markers do not change
sides (to keep the centre
passes alternate)
