Junior year is the most important year in
high school
It’s when students will make decisions about
the next stage of their life
It’s important to start talking about those
decisions early in the year
The US Department of Labor says 62% of all
jobs require either a bachelor’s degree, an
associates degree or a degree from a
technical school
By 2020 that percentage jumps to 75%
You don’t have to go to a 4-year college but
you should think about furthering your
education after high school

Without a High School Diploma
You will make$23,088 a year and $808,080 if you work 35 years
With a High School Diploma
You will make $32,552 a year and $1,139,320 if you work 35 years
With Associates or Technical School Degree
You will make $39,884 a year and $1,395,940 if you work 35 years
With a Bachelor’s Degree
You will make $53,976 a year and $1,889,160 if you work 35 years
It’s time to start planning for what you will do
after high school
If you want to go to a 4-year college,
community college or technical school you

study and where you’d like to go

Going to work, going to military and or
attending Waubonsee Community College,
consider taking:
English: British Literature or other English
electives (Survey of Comm., Ind. Reading,
etc.)
Math: Algebra 2, Tech Math, Business Math
Science: Earth Science, Chemistry, Food
Science, Forensic Science
Going to attend a 4-Year University/College,
you should consider taking:
English: Humanities Honors or Humanities
Math: Algebra 2, Pre-Calc, Calc, AP Calc,
College Algebra, Plane Trig., AP Computer
Science
Science: AP Physics, AP Chem., AP Bio., Human
Structure & Function, Adv. Bio., Physics and
Forensic Science
Take a class in a field you are interested in.
For example:
Health Occupations if you want to be a nurse
Auto Mechanics if you like working with cars
And if you haven’t taken it yet, think about
taking Keyboarding-it will help no matter
what career choice you make
The PSAE Test is a 2-Day Test Taken on
April 24 and April 25
You are required to take the PSAE to Graduate
The PSAE is broken into 2 Parts:
The ACT and WorkKeys
Consists of the ACT Exam which is made up
of:

English Test-45 minutes to answer 75 questions
Math Test-60 minutes to answer 60 questions
Reading Test-35 minutes to answer 40 questions
Science Test-35 minutes to answer 40 questions
Average ACT Score for East High was 16.7 out of 36
The ACT isn’t an IQ Test but tests what you have learned
You should be able to infer the main idea of
reading passage
You should be able to link the correct verbs
to the correct nouns
Proofread sentences and paragraphs for
correct punctuation and sentence fragments
Be aware of the writing style used in each
passage
Pay Attention to parts of the passage that are
UNDERLINED
If NOTHING is underlined you will be asked about
the whole passage
Examine each answer choice and determine how
it differs from the others
Read and consider all of the answer choices
before you choose the one that best responds to
the question
Determine the best answer
Reread the sentence, using your selected answer
Know how to solve one, two and three step
equations
Know about slope, angles and how to find the
perimeter and area of squares and triangles
Know how to write an Algebraic Equation
Read each question carefully to make sure
you understand the type of answer required
If you choose to use a calculator make sure it
works and has batteries
Solve the problem
Locate your solution among the answer
choices
Make sure you answer the question asked
Check your work
Be able to identify the main ideas of each
paragraph
Infer the main idea of the entire passage
Identify cause and effect relationships in the
passage
Read the passage carefully and highlight main
ideas and make notes of important
information
Read and consider all of the answer choices
before you choose the one that best responds
to the question
Refer to the passage when answering the
questions
Be able to understand a hypothesis and
experimental designs (what is the control and
variable)
Interpret graphs
Place random data into organized graphs or
tables
Read the passage carefully.
Refer to the scientific information in the
passage when answering the question.
