Coordinate Graphing
WE ARE LEARNING TO…PLOT ORDERED
PAIRS ON A COORDINATE PLANE.
THURSDAY, JUNE 2, 2016
Coordinate Graphing
 Coordinate Plane is a grid used for graphing that is formed
by the intersection of a vertical and horizontal number line.

The x-axis is the horizontal number line on a coordinate plane.

The y-axis is the vertical number line on a coordinate plane.
 To plot a point on a Coordinate Plane you will be given an
Ordered Pair.

This is a pair of numbers used to identify points on the graph.

These points are given in the sequence (x, y) …location on x-axis,
location on y-axis.
Coordinate Graphing
 When graphing or locating a
point on a coordinate plane:
1.
2.
3.
Start in the center of the graph at
the point (0, 0). This point in
called the origin.
Next move left or right the x-axis
until you locate the first value in
the ordered pair.
Then move up or down following
the y-axis to locate the second
value in the ordered pair.
