OCLC BISAC Initiatives
• OCLC researchers and Dewey editors are collaborating
on a project to create authority records for BISAC
subject headings and add Dewey numbers to the records
• BISAC subject headings, including usage notes, are
coded according to the MARC 21 format for authority
data
• Dewey numbers from DDC 22, the latest edition of
Dewey, are applied to the records by the Dewey team
The Authority File and BISAC-DDC Mappings
• Base file = 2007 edition
• Manual & programmatic conversion
• Updated to reflect 2008 and 2009 additions and changes
• MARC21 Authority Format
• 3,672 Records (includes inactive codes)
• 7,449 DDC numbers (assigned by Dewey editors)
• 4,136 Usage notes
