Lesson # 23
MEDIAN
Pay
Close
Attention !
The “Median”…
Of a group of
numbers
Is…
The “center or middle” value …
Creating an equal
number of values on
either side of it.
However…
All the values or numbers
must be arranged
in order
from smallest to
biggest
First !
Like …the number 10 is the
“median” in the set …
3, 6, 10, 12, 15
Or the number 15 is the median
in this set…
8,9,10,11,
15, 21, 22, 24, 25
See…
There are 4 values on either
side of the 15!
But what would happen if there
was an even set of values…
Meaning… there
was no “exact”
middle???
Hmmm…
Like the “median” of this set…
3, 5, 8, and 9.
???
What to do ?
Rather than guess…
Watch !
Quietly!
And
LEARN !
Here is what to do…
3, 5, 8, 9
Take the 2 center values (5,8)
And find their “Mean”
Huh?
That’s right…
Find the “mean” of the 2 center values. (5 and 8)
And that means…
Add them and then divide by 2
Soooooo…
5 + 8 = 13…divided by 2 equals
6.5 !
Yep…the Median
of 3,5,8,9
Is…
6.5………… Yahoo !
Remember…
You only need to do this
calculation if there is an
“even” set of values!
Get it ?
Good, you got it…
Now you are ready for
10
