1. Cut out the number lines and place them as below:
Ask your child if they know what the space between the two lines represents. Tell them it is zero or nothing.
2. Place the marker at zero and have one person as blue and the other as red. Encourage your child to use blue
and you red. This will encourage them to think of blue as positive numbers on the line which will help them in
later years.
3. Have your child roll their die and move the marker up the line.
4. Then you roll your die and move it backwards that many spaces. Explain to your child that when you move
back down the line you are subtracting and when they move up the line it is like adding.
5. Have fun practicing adding and subtracting with your child!
