Numbers Word Problems
Example:
 Crystal swam 5 ⅓ lengths of the pool and
JoAnn swam 1 ½ times as far as Crystal.
How many lengths did JoAnn swim?
 Answer: 5 ⅓ x 1 ½ =
16/3 x 3/2 = (Change to a mixed number)
48/6 = (Multiply numerators, then multiply denominators)
8 (Reduce by dividing)
Problems
 #1 Johnny uses 1 ¼ packages of chocolate
chips in his cookie recipe. He wanted more
cookies and decided to make 2 ½ times the
cookie recipe this time. How many
packages of chocolate chips did he use?
 Mr. MacNamara has 2/3 acre of land. He
wants to plant potatoes on ¾ of his land.
How much land will be planted with
potatoes?
 Maria ran for ¾ an hour each day for 7 days. What
is her total running time?
