Expressions
Definitions
• Variable Expression:
– an expression with at least one variable along
with operations and sometimes numbers
• Terms:
– the parts of an expression that are added
together
• Coefficient:
– the number part of a term. The number that
precedes the variable in a term

• Constant Term:
– a term with a number but no variables
• Like Terms:
– terms that have the same variable
parts. Terms that have the same
variable raised to the same power
• Simplifying Expressions:
– combining like terms so it has no
grouping symbols and all like terms
have been combined
