What is an integer?

The set of positive whole numbers
their opposites, and zero.
Integers to the left of zero, are
less than zero and are negative.

Finding an Opposite

Two numbers that are the same distance
from 0 on a number line, but in opposite
directions are opposites.
Example: Find the opposite of -5.

Finding an Absolute Value

The absolute value of a number is its
distance from 0 on a number line.
*notation: the absolute value of -2 is written as |-2|
Example: Find |-4| and |4|.
