What is a fraction?
• A fraction represents
a part of a whole or
part of a set.
• Example:
The pizza slice is one
part of the whole
pizza.

numbers in a fraction.

The top number is
called the numerator.

denominator.

how many parts of the

whole or set is divided
into.

• The circle is divided
into 4 equal parts, or
fourths.
