Where did Theater Start?
Theater began in Ancient Greece around
4000 B.C.
 People used to tell stories to honor their
God’s
 The God the Ancient Greeks mainly
honored was Dionysus, the Greek god of
Wine, madness, and theater.

Ancient Greeks

Early Theater was performed on an
amphitheater stage, that seated well over
10,000 people.

The main problem was that people who sat
all the way in the back row could not see or
hear the story from their seat.
Ancient Greeks Cont.

In order to fix this problem, the Greeks
built 2 Large basic masks that told the
audience if a character was happy or sad.

Since then, the masks have become the
international symbol of all theater, and
have been the two main categories of
theater……

Comedy and Tragedy
Since Then……
Theater has taken on many different
additions and styles. Presently, the most
popular style of theater is Music Theater.
 Music Theater is a story that integrates
songs and dances into the plot.

3. The Characters MUST be deeply defined through
their songs and dances.
