Science Fair: Data Analysis
Brief Statistics
Science Fair Data Analysis
Data collected during
experiments needs to
be analyzed.
Part of the analysis
process is to
incorporate some
statistics.
Statistics for Science Fair
After collecting the data from the 30 to 50 trials,
You must find the:
MEAN
MEDIAN
MODE
RANGE
For the entire data collected.
MEAN
The mean is the
average of all the
trials.
To find mean you
must add the
numbers (data) of
each trial and then
divided by the
number of trails.
You would add natural
sponge trials together
and get an average,
then synthetic sponge
trials and find their
average.

MEDIAN
The median is the middle
number of all the trials.
To find the middle:
1. Place all numbers in order.
2. Count until reach middle
of line.
If there is an even number of
trials:
1. Place all numbers in order
2. Add the two middle
numbers
3. Then divide the results by
2 to find middle number.

MODE
The mode is the number that is repeated most
often.
In this case for
Natural Sponge: 2
Synthetic sponge: 2
RANGE
The largest number
subtracted by the
smallest number of
the trials.
Do both natural and
Synthetic sponges
separately.
