Elaine’s Grocery has a lunch counter where people can order 3 types of sandwiches:
egg salad, chicken salad, or falafel. Sandwiches can be made with 2 types of bread:
pita or baguette. Create a tree diagram by writing the sandwich choices into the
empty boxes to show all the possible combinations for a sandwich from this lunch
counter.
Molly built a dollhouse that is a scale model of her home. The floor plan for the
bottom floor of the dollhouse is shown below, with measurements in inches. The
rooms and hall are represented by rectangles.
Note: 1 inch in the model represents 2.5 feet in the home.
Molly added curtains along the entire length of 1 of the shortest walls in the
dining room. To determine the length, in inches, of material she needed, she
found the value of the expression 3.6(1.05). Molly painted the floors of the 2
rooms and the hall shown in the floor plan. To the nearest 0.01, what is the total
area, in square inches, that Molly painted? Write your answer in decimal form to
the hundredths place in the box.

Vocabulary
• Stem – and – Leaf Plot- The numerical data is
listed in ascending or descending order
• Stems – The greatest place values of the data are
used for the stems
• Leaves- The least place value forms the leaves
• Back to Back Stem – and – Leaf Plot – Used to
compare two sets of data
Example 1
Construct a Stem – and – Leaf Plots
The table shows the average weight in pounds
of different breeds of adult dogs. Display the
data in a stem – and – leaf plot.
Example 2
Construct a Stem – and – Leaf Plots
The numbers of minutes Will spent exercising
are shown. Display the data in a stem – and –
leaf plot.
Example 3
Construct a Stem – and – Leaf Plots
The table shows the amounts of peanuts
harvested in certain states in a recent year.
Display the data in a stem – and – leaf plot.
Example 4
Interpret Data
The stem – and – leaf plot shows the number of
wins for various softball teams in one season.
(a). Find the median and mode.
(b). What is the difference between the least and
greatest number of wins?
Example 5: Interpret Data
The stem – and – leaf plot lists the number of
students in each class in a middle school that own
pets.
(a). Find the median and mode.
(b). What is the difference between the least and the
greatest number of students who own pets?
Example 6
Back to Back Stem – and – Leaf Plots
The monthly snowfall accumulations for 9 months in
Syracuse and Buffalo, New York, are shown.
(a) In general, which city has the lower amount of
monthly snowfall? Explain.
(b) Which city has more varied
amounts of snowfall? Explain.
Example 7
Back to Back Stem – and – Leaf Plots
(a) In general, which city had the higher daily
temperatures? Explain.
(b) Which city has more varied temperatures?
Explain.
