Egypt, Mesopotamia
And the
Fertile Crescent
The Fertile Crescent
The Fertile Crescent is a crescent shaped
area of land along the northern edge of
the Arabian Desert.
• It consists of Mesopotamia, the Orontes
and Jordan river valleys and the
Mediterranean coast parallel to them.
• Civilization grew up early in these areas
based on independent city-states.
The Fertile Crescent fails to
Unite
• The People of the Fertile Crescent were
of various races and cultures.
• The city-states fought amongst
themselves, Barbarians often invaded.
Only when one city-state rose and created a
brief Empire was it united
Mostly was a land of many different and
conflicting mini-civilizations
Egypt
In Contrast Egypt was united early,
around 3000 BC
Except for one barbarian invasion, and a
few brief civil wars it remained united
with a single and almost unchanging
race, culture, religion and government
for 2000 years!
