Welcome to AP Physics C
What does the “C” stand for?
Calculus!
AP Physics C is
Calculus-based
Physics for Engineers
What will we study?
• Mechanics
– Motion (1D, 2D, & 3D)
• Circular Motion
• Projectile Motion
• Relative Motion
–
–
–
–
–
–
Forces (Newton’s Laws)
Energy
Momentum
Rotational Motion
Universal Gravitation
Simple Harmonic Motion
• Electricity & Magnetism
–
–
–
–
Electric Forces & Fields
Gauss’s Law
Electric Potential
Electric Circuits
•
•
•
•
Capacitor only
Resistor only
RC circuits
RL circuits
– Magnetic Fields
– Electromagnetic Induction
How about the AP tests?
Yes…I said tests! There are 2 Physics C tests!
Physics C: Mechanics
– worth up to 4 credit hours of
University Physics
Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism
– worth up to 4 credit hours of
University Physics
Each test is registered for, paid for, and reported
separately! You can take either or both!
What will the AP tests be like?
Physics C: Mechanics
Physics C: Electricity & Magnetism

How will we prepare?
•
•
•
•
Homework problems
Quizzes (MC and/or Free Response)
Free Response tests of 6 questions
Most tests will be on block day
– 6 questions in 80 minutes
– Test every other week
• Program formulas into your calculator as you go.
Get whatever calculator you are gonna use for
the test ASAP!!!
• Built-in curve (on tests only) models AP scoring.
Curve?...Did she say curve?
Yes! I said curve!
But there is a catch!
So…What’s the catch?
To qualify for the curve on each test,
you must…
• Turn in your homework on time
• Make at least a 70 on your homework
This is not negotiable!!!!
No homework…No CURVE!
So…Now that I know what I have to do to
get the curve…How does it work?
Curved Score  10 * grade
If you do your homework and turn it in, then
49 70 which corresponds roughly to the 50% needed for a 3 on the AP test
64 80 which corresponds roughly to the 65% needed for a 4 on the AP test
81 90 which corresponds roughly to the 80% needed for a 5 on the AP test
What will our tests look like?
Here is my test recipe: 6 problems… (for most FR tests)
– 2 AP Problems (from the Packet)
– 2 “Homework” style problems
– 1 Example problem (word for word from text)
– 1 “Ingle’s Choice”
•
•
•
•
Could be from a college test
OR any other textbook
Could be another AP, homework, or example problem
Anything goes!
What else do I need to know?
• You must be committed until May
– Senioritis must be put off until after the AP test
• Homework is due on test day
– I may stamp homework to show that it was done
on time.
• Quizzes could happen at any time
– They could be over the homework OR
– They could be multiple choice (no calc and timed)
• TESTs are approximately every other Block Day
• There will be Labs!

about you!
