Walking to the store, John dropped his wallet on the
sidewalk, but he did not discover this until he was in the
checkout line.
The office in the back of the storeroom of Kayla’s Portland
store on East Burnside developed cracks in the outside wall,
allowing rain to seep in.
Registration had been open for three weeks before many
students really got serious about selecting a schedule, and
then, to their dismay, they found many sections of the
courses they need with wait lists!

Unity Review of Essay 2
Work with in groups of 2-3 to check the degree of unity
in each of your body paragraphs.
1. Underline your topic sentences.
2. Trade papers with a member of your group.
3. Systematically check each sentence in each body
paragraph for unity by labeling each as S (supports),
O (off-topic), or C (contradicts) the topic sentence.
4. Discuss your findings with each other, and chat about
how you improve unity in your next revision.
Specifically, what needs to be changed: the topic
sentence or the body sentences? Why?
Topic Sentences
Many of you probably noted that one or more of
your body paragraphs lack a topic sentences.
