Subject
• A noun or pronoun
– She is beautiful.
– The dog ran.
• A gerund (phrase)
– Reading is fun.
– Studying your notes is essential.
• An infinitive (phrase)
– To shop brings me joy.
– To finish my Master’s degree by next year would be a dream come true.
• A relative clause
– Wherever he goes determines what plane tickets he needs.
• Implied subject

Verb
• Transitive
– Has a direct object

Direct Object
• The object that is receiving the action of the
subject and verb

Indirect Object
• The object unaffected by the verb
