Para: to or towards a place

Excuse me, are we going the right way, towards
the Hotel Real?
Para: for to indicate a goal or purpose
Para is often
followed by an
infinitive verb.
Susana fue al mercado para buscar cerámica.
Susana went to the market in order to look for
ceramics.
¿Está todo listo para la venta mañana?
Is everything ready for the sale tomorrow?
¿Necesitas ropa para la fiesta?
Do you need clothes for the party?
Para: to or for a person or thing
(a recipient)
Fumar es malo para la salud
Smoking is bad for your health.

Los regalos son para los niños.
The gifts are for the kids.

• We do NOT use preposition verbs (like por or para)
after the verbs buscar or pedir.
• Buscar already means “to look for”
• Pedir already means “to ask for”
• So we don’t need por or para!
