Present Perfect
El presente perfecto
The present perfect tense is used
when speaking of a past event
without reference to any particular
time.
It brings the action right up the
present.
Present Perfect examples
in English:
I have arrived.
We have eaten.
You have danced the tango.
He has visited Spain.
The present perfect is called a
compound tense because it consists
of two parts.
Compound Tense = Verb tense with two
parts
The present perfect has two
parts:
1. the present tense of haber
2. a past participle
conjugation of haber + past
participle = present perfect
Haber - to have
(auxiliary, helping verb)

ha (he/she has)

nosotros

ellos/ellas/uds.
(they/you all have)
Past participle
indicates a past or completed action

In Spanish, the past participle is formed
by adding -ado to the stem of -AR verbs
and -ido to the stem of -ER and -IR verbs.

The verb haber and the past participle
are NEVER separated in a Spanish
sentence.

hasta ahora - until now, so far
jamás - ever, never
