Use:
We use simple past to talk about
past events in a specific time in
the past.
(Nosotros usamos el pasado
simple para hablar de eventos que
han ocurrido en un tiempo
específico en el pasado)
In English there are two kinds of
verbs: Regular and Irregular
(En Inglés existen dos tipos de
verbos: Regulares e Irregulares)
Regular verbs add -ed, -ied, or -d to form the past.
(A los verbos regulares se les añade –ed, –ied, o –d para formar su pasado).
WALK becomes WALKED
STUDY becomes STUDIED
LISTEN becomes LISTENED
ARRIVE becomes ARRIVED
(WALK se convierte en WALKED)
(STUDY se convierte en STUDIED)
(LISTEN se convierte en LISTENED)
(ARRIVE se convierte en ARRIVED)
Irregular verbs most of the times CHANGE to a different word to form the past.
( Los verbos irregulares muchas veces CAMBIAN a una palabra diferente para formar su pasado).
BUY becomes BOUGHT
BREAK becomes BROKE
STEAL becomes STOLE
WRITE becomes WROTE
(BUYse convierte a BOUGHT)
(BREAKse convierte a BROKE)
(STEALse convierte a STOLE)
(WRITE se convierte a WROTE)
Some common time expressions used with past are:

•Sarah went to the movies last night. (Irregular verb)
(Sarah fue al cine la noche pasada.) (Verbo irregular)
•I came to Cortez two years ago. (Irregular verb)
(Fuí a Cortez hace dos años.) (Verbo irregular)
•We walked around the park and fed the ducks. (Regular verb)
(Nosotros caminamos arededor del parque y alimentamos a los patos) (Verbo regular)
•I got the right answer, but I didn't show the process. (Irregular verb / regular verb)
(Yo tenía la respuesta correcta, pero no demostré el procedimiento.) (Verbo irregular / regular)
Forms:
+ = I went to school yesterday
( + = Yo fuí a la escuela ayer)
X =I didn’t go to school yesterday
( x = Yo no fuí a la escuela ayer)
? =Did you go to school yesterday?
( ? = ¿Fuíste a la escuela ayer?)
Examples:
•I went to the cinema yesterday.
( Fuí al cine ayer)
•I saw my boyfriend last night.
( Ví a mi novio la noche pasada).
•We shared some good experiences last week.
( Nosotros compartimos buenos momentos la semana pasada).
•Last holidays I visited some nice places.
( Las vacaciones pasadas visité algunos buenos lugares)
•I traveled to Europe with my family last holidays.
( Viajé a Europa con mi familia las vacaciones pasadas).
•They sang a romantic song in the festival.
( Ellos cantaron una romántica canción en el festival).
•She read a short story about love.
( Ella leyó una pequeña historia de amor)
Examples:
•We didn't have time to visit the Eiffel Tower.
( Nosotros no tuvimos tiempo de visitar la Torre Eiffel).
•We didn't do exercise this morning.
( Nosotros no hicimos ejercicio esta mañana)
•You didn’t have a bicycle when you were a boy.
( Tu no tuviste una bicicleta cuando eras niño)
•You didn’t do much climbing in Switzerland.
( Tu no escalaste tanto en Suecia).
Examples:

Did they collect stamps when they were children?
Did she close the window or the door?
Did he help his mother before coming to school?
Did you look for the dog outside?
Did you practice the guitar this morning?
Did they wash their hands before eating their lunch?
