Welcome to

Grade
We are going to ROCK
this year!
Agenda/Take Home Folder
• This is our main way of communicating!!!!
• Both of these items will go home everyday
{Parents, please initial the agenda so that I
know you have seen it}
• Please place notes in the take home folder
{lunch money, Dr. notes, changing ways to go
home etc.}
Homework:
We will have homework in 1st grade. Reading for 20
minutes each night is the most important piece.
Additional homework will be placed in the front pocket of
the take home folder. Homework will always be
supplemental.
Homework cont…
• Homework will go home on Mondays in the take home
folder and is due Fridays in this folder.
• Homework will consist of ELA or math homework.
• It will be your choice how and when you do your
homework as long as it comes back on Friday.
Differentiation
Kids learn at different paces. It is my job to
ensure each child learns the curriculum at their
pace. Kids also learn in different ways. My goal is
to make sure that your child understands how
he/she learns best and to help them implement
these skills on a daily basis. As a result, your
child will pace him/herself and may be doing
something different than the other kids. (This is
the case for all the kids) My job is to facilitate this
process.
Nurse Ward
• Our school nurse is available should your child
become sick or have an injury during the day. She will
contact you should you need to pick up your child
from school. A child must be fever free, without
medication, for 24 hours before returning to school.
If your child becomes sick in the evening and you
must keep them home, please let the school know. It
is especially important to let us know if your child
develops a particularly contagious condition (chicken
pox, strep throat, head lice, etc) so that teachers can
watch for symptoms in other classmates. Please keep
the nurse and teacher informed of any unique health
condition.
Absences
• A written excuse note must accompany your child
upon returning to school following an absence.
Arrival after 10:00 am is considered a full day
absence. If a note is not sent, the absence is
considered unexcused. If possible, please let me
know ahead of time if you know your child will be
absent from school for extended period of time.
Leaving Early
• Please understand that if you pick up your child
early from school for any reason, normal
afternoon procedures will be postponed until
the following day. For example, behavior chart,
school communication, etc. Teaching is still
going on till 2:50pm and it is hard for the
teacher and students to stop instruction.
Thanks!
Background Check
• All volunteers are required to complete a
background check each school year. If you are
interested in helping with class parties, field
trips, field day, tutoring, etc. you will be required
to complete a background check (one for each
volunteer) prior to volunteering.
Dress Code
• The PE coach would like for students to wear tennis
shoes on PE specials days. Please see calendar for
designated PE days.
• The first Thursday of each month is deemed as “College
Awareness Day.” Your child is encouraged to wear your
favorite college gear.
• On Fridays we encourage your child, if you have one, to
wear a Specht Spirit shirt.
• The classrooms can get chilly sometimes, if your child
would like, please send a sweater to school.
• Please make sure your child is following the student
dress code as stated in the student handbook.
Day to Day
• Please make sure your child has a snack each day.
• Please send in a pop-up water bottle with your
child.
• Please make sure your child has the correct money
in his/her account.
• Please, Please, Please, make sure you send a note if
your child is going home a different way than
normal. This is a safety issue and unless your child
has a note or you have called the front office or me,
I will have to send him/her home the normal way.
Celebrating Birthdays at SES!
• If you elect to bring a treat (must be store
bought), please be sure to have it delivered
before lunch.
• We will celebrate at the end of the school day.
All Star Fridays
• All Star Fridays will be held every other Friday.
• Parents will be reminded via School Messenger.
• We encourage parents to join us, in particular
when your child is being celebrated.
• Each teacher will award Shining Star to those
students who exemplify outstanding core values.
• Not all students will necessarily be awarded a
Shining Star award in the course of the year.
