Whenever you use VER with a PERSON, put an “A’”
right before the person.
Ex: We see the girls = Nosotros vemos A las chicas.
We see the boy. Nosotros vemos Al chico.(a plus el =
al)

Stem-changing verbs
• The following verbs are special. You still have to
conjugate them the same way depending on their
endings:
-Ar, -Er, -Ir
(from Section F of your packet)
cerrar (ie) ……………………………………. …to close
empezar (ie) …………………………………. to begin (FOLLOW
WITH “a” if you are saying what person starts to do! )
entender (ie) …………………………………. to understand
pensar (ie) …………………………………. to think, to plan
preferir (ie) …………………………………. to prefer
querer (ie) …………………………………. to want
But NOW you also have to change the spelling of
the STEM in some forms:
Stem-changing verbs change in every form but
NOSOTROS.
You STILL have to conjugate.
These stem-changing verbs are sometimes called
boot verbs. Can you see why?

• the “ie” next to the verb means
that the E becomes an IE in every
form but nosotros!
Cerrar = to close
(E becomes IE in every form but nosotros)
