Verb Families
There are 3 families of verbs in Spanish. They are
determined by the ending of the verb.
Verbs in Spanish end in:
"ar"
"er"
"ir"
Parts of a Verb
Infinitive = the -er form of a verb
Ejemplo: comer= to eat
Stem = the verb without its -er ending
Ejemplo: com-The --er verb endings in the present tense...

Forming the
conjugated verb
To conjugate these "go" verbs, you drop
the "er/ir" ending of the infinitive form of
the verb to create the stem.
You add "go" to the end of the stem to
create the "yo" form of the verb.
You add the appropriate ending for
each of the other subjects.
Hacer (la tarea)
Salir
Forming the
conjugated verb
To conjugate these stem changing
verbs, you drop the "ar/er/ir" ending
of the infinitive form of the verb to
create the stem.
You change the o in the stem to ue for
all forms EXCEPT nosotros.
You then add the appropriate ending
for each of the subjects.
Poder
Almorzar
Dormir
Forming the
conjugated verb
To conjugate these stem changing "go"
verbs, you drop the "ar/er/ir" ending of
the infinitive form of the verb to create
the stem.
You change the e in the stem to ie for all
forms EXCEPT NOSOTROS and YO (yo is
a go form).
You then add the appropriate ending for
each of the subjects (go in the yo form).
