Gerunds
• A verb ending in –ing that acts like a noun
▫ Dancing is awesome!

• A gerund phrase is a gerund + modifiers

• A verb (ending in –ing, -ed, -t, -n) that functions
as an adjective.
▫ The dancing fool stepped on my foot.
▫ The shaken woman cried over the accident.
• A participial phrase includes its own modifiers
▫ Partially eaten corn will show up about a day later.
▫ The idiot dancing over there is annoying.
Infinitives
• A verb using the word “to” in front of it. It can
function as a noun, adjective or adverb.
▫ To eat is to live.
▫ I want to dance.
• Infinitive phrases includes its modifiers.
▫ To dance while eating is dangerous.
▫ I want to eat eggrolls in the morning.
