Irregular verb prendre
 The verb prendre is irregular. Notice the spelling changes
in the stem of the verb for the plural forms:
 Verbs like prendre are conjugated the same way with an
added prefix.
 Prendre (to take; to get; to have food or drink)
 Apprendre (to learn)
 Comprendre (to understand)
 Reprendre (to have more food or drink)

Nous prenons
Tu prends
Vous prenez
Il/elle/on prend
Ils/elles prennent
The imperative
 To form the imperative or the command forms, use the tu,
nous or vous form of the present tense of the verb without
actually stating the subject. This is known as the
understood “you” in English. Notice that for –er verbs,
including aller, you drop the –s at the end of the tu form.
 Tu écoutes Paul.
 You’re listening to Paul.
 Nous écoutons Paul.
 We’re listening to Paul.
 Vous écoutez Paul.
 You’re listening to Paul.

The imperative
 For –ir and –re verbs and irregular verbs that don’t end in –
er, the spelling of the command forms don’t change.
 Tu fais tes devoirs.




Fais tes devoirs!
You’re doing your homework Do your homework!
Nous attendons le bus.
Attendons le bus!
We’re waiting for the bus.
Let’s wait for the bus!
Vous finissez votre dîner.
Finissez votre dîner
 You’re finishing your dinner.
Finish your dinner!
 To make a command negative, put ne before the verb and pas
after it.
 Regarde la télé!
Ne regarde pas la télé!

 The verb boire (to drink) is irregular and must be
memorized! Notice the spelling changes in the stem
for the plural forms.
Je bois
Nous buvons
Tu bois
Vous buvez
Il/elle/on boit
Ils/elles boivent
