Narrative Standards

Narrative is another
word for story.
If you haven’t already
started, you will be
writing your own story.
You will be using the
standards to perfect
your story.
Today…
We will break the
standards down, so
that you will know
what is expected of
your story!!!
What is expected of you for the first
nine weeks?
You will be expected to:
1. Write effectively to share information that
explains or informs to a selected audience.
2. Develop a narrative essay using the writing
process.
3. Learn vocabulary words related to the narrative
unit in order to enhance your writing skills.

numbers stand
for?
Standard ELA7W2. A
REMEMBER:
◘ Letters that come after a standard represents
an element.
◘ The word element means that it is only a part
of a standard.
◘ The letter “a” is the first element of the
standard which means that it is the first part of
the standard that you are expected to learn.
The student demonstrates competence
in a variety of genres.
Demonstrate means to show.
Competence means skill.
Variety means selection.
Genre means category.
In other words…
The student shows skills in a selection of
categories.
o Students are to gather into teams of five
o Each student will choose a job assignment card
o Job Assignments include but are not limited to:
~ Noise Controller
~ Information Finder(2) for some
~ Information Writer
~ Presenter/ Time Keeper (2)
Job Descriptions are on the back of each card.
Students are to read and take on that task.

The first standard will be modeled and
unpacked together as a class.
Each team will receive a standard/element to
unpack. Students will then record this
standard onto the chart paper provided.
Each team member will read over the
standard and record any unknown or
unfamiliar words onto the chart paper.
The “Information Finder” will look up the
unknown words and read the definition.
Each team member will read over the standard
and determine what they should be able “to do”,
and list this under the “verb” column; as well as
what they “should know” and list this under the
“noun” column.
The “Presenters” will share their standard and
info with the class, and hang it around the room.
