What is a pronoun?

Pronouns
A pronoun takes the place
of a noun.
Subject Pronouns
He, she ,it , I, you, they, we
* Who or what the
sentence is about.
Object Pronouns
Him, her, us, them, it, me,
you
* Use these after the verb.
Examples
1. She likes to run in the afternoons.
2. They went to a movie with us.
3. We had fun with them at the fair.
4. I love to eat ice cream. It tastes so
good.
Antecedent
An antecedent is the word
a pronoun stands for.
Sarah lost her coat.
Examples
1. After he hit the homerun, Joe ran to
first base.
2. If you give it a cracker, the parrot
might speak to you.
3. Megan said she liked that kind of
candy.
Examples
4. Jenny and Bob planned a surprise
party for their friend.
5. Jenny invited her friends, and Bob
invited his friends.
6. The friends said they would come.
7. Bob baked a chocolate cake and put
icing on it.
