To be allowed to
• We use to be allowed to when we
want to talk about permissions—
things other people let us do.
• It is a synonym of CAN.

• They are allowed to play soccer in
the garden.
• They are not allowed to play soccer
inside the house.

9
• We often use to be allowed to
instead of "can“ because can only
has the Past form (could), it does
NOT have a future form. Then, we
use “to be allowed to”.

To put "can" into other tenses we can use to
be allowed to.

jump in my
bed.
Simple Past

to eat
everything I
wanted.
