Irregular verbs do NOT follow the
standard rules of conjugations.
Sometimes there are similarities
between irregular verbs, but
unfortunately there is no one way to
identify whether a verb is irregular or
not. You must memorize them.
Ir = to go

Yo___________a la escuela.
Yo voy a la escuela.
Nosotros __________a la escuela
Nosotros vamos a la escuela.
Dar = to give
Doy

Ellos ___________la tarea a la

los verbos Estar y Ser?
Prepositions


A = “to” or “toward”
A = also is used before a direct object
that is referring to a specific person
(s).
– This is called the “Personal A”
– We have no equivalent in the English
language
Ejemplos:




Voy a la escuela cada semana.
I go to school every week.
Nosotros andamos a la tienda cada
domingo.
We walk to the store every Sunday.

I look at the book


La contraccion “DE”





DE = “of,” “from,” or “about”
Hablamos de la tarea
We talk about the homework
Ella es de Guatemala.
She is from Guatemala.
Las contracciones al y del



Both prepostitions a y de contract with
el, the definite article, or masculine
singular nouns.
A + el = al
De + el = del
Ejemplos:






I listen to my friend Tom
Escucho a mi amigo Tom.
I listen to the teacher.
Escucho al profesor.
I listen to the teachers.
Escucho a los profesores.
A y de DO NOT contract with any other
articles or adjectives…only with the
masculine definite article “el”
El profesor habla de la tarea
El profesor habla del ensayo
El profesor habla de las clases
El profesor habla de la clase.
La profesora habla a la clase
La profesora habla al alumno.

