Estar plus the gerund is a form of a verb
that translates to “ing” in English. (i.e.) I
am speaking, I am looking, you are
walking, they are reading, etc.
It is conjugated as follows:
The verb Estar
Estoy
Estás
Está
Estamos
Estáis
Están
+ “ndo”
Ar
verbs end in
“ando” and
ER/IR verbs end in
“iendo”
To form the gerund, start with the
infinitive
For example:
Caminar-to walk
Take off the “ar” ending
And add the “ndo” Ending
Caminar----------------------------------
Caminando.
Hablar
Hablando
Beber
bebiendo
Volver
volviendo
Mandar
mandando
Descargar
descargando

Verbs that have conjugations that end in
a vowel like.. Leer (3rd person, ella leo) or
Creer (ella creo) etc.. Have an ending of
–yendo instead of –iendo or –ando..
Leer (to read) leyendo
Creer (to believe)creyendo
Proveer (to provide)proveyendo
Caer (to fall) crayendo
Traer (to bring) trayendo
Pay attention to stem changers:
O ue becomes o U
Examples: Dormir----Durmiendo, Morir-muriendo
Eie becomes e I
Example: Sentir-------Sintiendo
EI stays EI
Examples: Pedir---Pidiendo
El Fin
