How to you use apps and lessons
with an entire class and only one
iPad

• Literacy Workstation
• Early Finisher Assignments
• An additional computer for technology
station

Managing the One iPad Classroom
• Begin by creating folders to make it easier
for students to find the appropriate
applications.
– To create a folder:
• Press and hold an app until all the apps begin to “wiggle” and
an “x” appears at the corner of each.
• Drag any app to another app and both will automatically be
placed in a folder.
• A title bar will appear.
• Tap on the title bar and the keyboard will appear.
• Type in a name for your folder.
• Tap an empty spot on the screen to see your titled folder.

• Morning work
– Assign each group a different day for
using the iPad in the morning.
– Students can:
From the ShowMe App
• Read a book together on iBooks or the Kindle (free apps
with easy to download free books)
• Use the ShowMe, ScreenChomp, or Explain Everything
app to show how to do something they recently learned.
• Watch a video on the Brainpop or PBS Kids app.
• Work on a math game or flashcards together using the
HyperBlast, Math Kid, or several free flashcards apps.

• Workstations
– Create task cards for applications and
activities.
– Model how to use the app by placing the app
under your document camera. This will cut
down on questions and arguments as the
students work in their groups.
– Have early finisher apps that students can use
if they finish their assignment early.
Note: (A folder has been created on the T:drive for
teachers to share their task cards.)

Word Detective
• Goal: to help you build fluency with
word recognition.
• During this center you will complete activities that
focus on identifying nouns, verbs, adverbs,
adjectives, etc.
• Complete as many task cards as you can in the
time provided.

Tap on the “Books” folder.
Select “Zebras Stripes”.
Read the story together.
Find and record ten (10) action verbs. Remember, an action
verb is a word that shows action (Example: jump, dance,
etc.).
Write these words in your reading notebook.
Choose three verbs from your list and write a sentence for
each.
Underline the action verb in each sentence.
Early Finisher Activities:
– Answer the questions at the end of the story in your reading notebook.
– Go to the “Language” folder. Work on a “Wordball” activity.
