about?
What is a Legend?
What comes to your mind when you see the
GIANT?
People told folk tales long before there were
books, newspapers or television. they were told
orally, and often the story changed with each retelling. Folktales were a way to bring news from
one village to the next. Parents used folktales to
teach lessons to their children
Folktales help people learn and understand their
lives. They can also explain the wonders of
nature, like thunderstorms and the phases of the
moon
Fairy tale: involve magical characters and
fantasy lands (Cinderella or ‘Jack and the
Bean stock’)
Tall tale: tales about people who supposedly
lived, but have performed some kind of
human feat (Johnny apple-seed)
Myths: Sacred stories which supply models
for human behavior. ( Greek and Roman
mythology)
Fables: A story that is told to enforce some
kind of natural truth. Often animals speak
and act like humans
Legend: an unverified story handed down
from earlier times, especially one popularly
believed to be historic
Legends often contain a moral or a lesson
and are told to uphold the values of the
community. They often involve supernatural
or religious elements.
