“Waiting for Godot”
This phrase comes from a 20th Century play in which
two characters, Vladimir and Estragon, are waiting for
the third, Godot, to show up, but he never arrives.
It means to wait for something that will never
happen.
Rock of Gibraltar
One of the Two Pillars of Hercules. After long sieges, the
Rock of Gibraltar or its people seemed indestructible.
The actual Rock of Gibraltar is in Spain.
To say “Solid as a Rock of Gilbraltar” means that that person or
situation cannot be overcome and does not fail.
A Titan
In Greek Mythology, there were 12 original titans who were
the offspring of Gaea and Uranus.
The titans rebelled against their father, but Zeus (Cronus’
son) rebelled against his father and won. The other
offspring of the Titans are now the Greek Gods.
A titan means someone or something with
enormous strength, power, influence, etc.
