problems through a
combination of goodwill and
donations. Environmental
protection officials praise the
firm’s newfound generosity but
say it’s not enough to avoid stiff
penalties.

This is Jasong Chang, chairman
of the world’s largest IC
packaging and testing service
provider. Yesterday he
apologized for dumping of toxic
wastewater by ASE, but he did
not admit ill intent.
Kaohsiung environmental officials
weren’t buying Chang’s
statements.

years starting from 2014. The
money will go toward
protecting the local
environment
看法
這個道歉最重要是對社會大眾，而
不是對環保局，假如說從各種跡象
看的話，我覺得應該不是所謂一時
疏忽，所以我覺得應該是蓄意
This apology is for the general
public, not the Environmental
Protection Bureau. Based on
what we’ve seen, I don’t think
this was a one-off mistake.
Therefore, I believe it was
deliberate
