Technology
Moore’s Law
• The number of Transistors will double

by half.
• Means: Telecommunications technology
will double in speed and availability every
two years and the cost will decrease.
Organizations Must Know:
• How to use changes in technology to keep
pace with their target audiences
• How to use and process information.
• How to keep our base (the Hero
Generation) involved
• How to attract the Boomers and future
members
• How we manage an organization that’s in
constant flux

Will It Work
• Ask President Obama!
“In an exclusive interview with The Post, members
of the vaunted Triple O, Obama's online
operation, broke down the numbers: 3 million
donors made a total of 6.5 million donations
online adding up to more than $500 million. Of
those 6.5 million donations, 6 million were in
increments of $100 or less. The average online
donation was $80, and the average Obama
donor gave more than once.”
Will it work in North Carolina?
• The Federal Retiree Task Force is a coalition of
many North Carolina public sector retirees in
North Carolina.
• They raised funds to support the Bailey-Patton
Settlement that insured equal treatment between
federal and state retirees in the state.
• They raised significant financial support through
letters to individuals asking for donations for
specific activities and reported back regularly to
supporters about progress.
Fly in the Ointment
• How do you reach this 113,000 potential
members in North Carolina.
• ANSWER
– One at a time. In the next section we will look
at several social network systems as a way to
reach our target groups.
