Metals

Metals are located on the LEFT side of the
zigzag line in the periodic table
Properties of Metals
 Physical
properties: Shiny,
MALLEABLE, DUCTILE, tough
texture
 Good CONDUCTORS of electricity
 Some metals are REACTIVE

Non-metals

Non-metals are located on the RIGHT side
of the periodic table
Properties of Non-Metals
 Properties
are OPPOSITE of
metals
 Dull, NOT MALLEABLE, NOT
DUCTILE
 Not good conductors

Semimetals

Semimetals are along the BORDER
between the metals and non-metals:
Boron, Silicon, Germanium, Arsenic,
Antimony, Tellurium, Astetine
Semimetals Properties


SEMICONDUCTORS- a useful property;
conducts electricity under certain
conditions (temperature, exposure to
light)
Used to make COMPUTER CHIPS,
transistors, and lasers
