CadSoft was established in the late 80’s by 2 engineers in Germany.
- The idea was to create an affordable Schematic and PCB editor solution program
that would offer an intuitive interface and be used in almost any electronic designs.
- Offer a full featured version of the program free, and include free technical
support.
After 20 years of development EAGLE:
- has been awarded ‘Product of the year’ six times in a leading German electronics
magazine “ ELEKTRONIK”

EAGLE, like all CAD software is sold by a “seat” license.
One “seat” means the customer bought a license where he can only load the
software onto one computer.
EAGLE comes in 3 editions:

2.STANDARD
3.PROFESSIONAL
Within those editions are 3 Modules:
1. SCHEMATIC EDITOR
2. LAYOUT EDITOR

Price Comparison
EAGLE Professional Full Featured single user license is less than
€1.499 with no maintenance fee.
Upgrades are a fraction of the initial investment and are optional.
Altium Designer cost € 4.995 and maintenance is €1.500/year, if the program
hasn’t been maintained upgrade is € 2.500
Zuken Cadstar cost € 4.995 and maintenance is €1.500/year
So why pay more for features you’re not going to use?
For the annual maintenance fee customers pay to Zuken, Mentor, Magna or
Altium, they can easily buy a EAGLE Professional license.
