This pillar represents belief. Shahada is the
main belief of all Muslims. If you want to
become a Muslim you have to say and mean
these words: There is no god but Allah;
Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. Or as
Muslims prefer “There is no god but the One
God” meaning there is One God for all
mankind.
Salah is the pillar for prayer. Muslims
pray five times a day, everyday. Before
Muslims pray they wash. This wash has a
special name: Wudu. These are the
prayer times: morning, around
lunchtime, evening and night.
This is the pillar for looking after other people aka
charity. Each Muslim gives up some money for the
poor. Zakat means clean. When they give up their
money they have been cleaned from selfishness and
greed.
Hajj is the pillar for the Muslim pilgrimage.
Every year Muslims from everywhere travel to
Mecca. In Mecca they arrive at Ka’aba. Most
Muslims travel once in their lifetime. Most
families only save for one person a year. Every
Muslim wears the same clothing as everyone
else to show everyone is equal before Allah.
This is the Muslim pillar for Ramadam. The
Islam calendars ninth month is Ramadam. That
is the month that Muhammad started receiving
messages from Allah. For thirty day Muslims
don’t eat or drink between sun light and sun
set. Not eating reminds Muslims what its like
to be poor and that they should thank Allah for
all his gifts.
