The 5 Pillars of Islam
Five acts of worship that are
required of all Muslims
Statement
of faith
Daily
prayer
Donating
To charity
Fasting
Traveling
To Mecca
First Pillar- Statement of
Faith
At least once in their lives, Muslims
must state their faith by saying,
“There is no god but God, and
Muhammad is his prophet”.
Muslims say this when they accept
Islam.
They also say it in their daily prayers
Second Pillar- Daily Prayer
Muslims must pray
five times per day:
Before sunrise
Midday
Late afternoon
After sunset
Before going to bed
A call goes out from
the mosque, inviting
Muslims to come
pray.
Muslims try to pray
together at the
mosque.
Third Pillar- Donating to
Charity
Muslims make a
yearly donation to
charity
They donate part
of their wealth to a
religious official.
This money is used
to help the poor,
build mosques, or
pay debts.
Fourth Pillar- Fasting
Fasting- going without
food or drink
Muslims fast daily during
the Holy month of
Ramadan.
They do not eat or drink
anything between dawn
and sunset.
Believe fasting is a way to
show that God is more
important than one’s own
body.
Fasting is a reminder of
the people in the world
who struggle to get
enough food.
